INSTITUTE, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team continued its stretch of road games against West Virginia State University. The Falcons' hitting struggled as the Yellow Jackets took the match, 3-0.
Joey Borelle led Fairmont State with 14 kills and 12 digs as
Baylie Ostvig finished with 10 kills.
Josie Skinn paced the defense with 16 digs while
Kelsie Dangerfield tallied 14 assists.
In the opening set, Fairmont State held the early advantage, 6-2. West Virginia State University battled its way back into the set and after a 5-1 run, the hosts were ahead 17-13. The Falcons responded with a four-straight points but the Yellow Jackets recaptured the advantage and led by four (22-18). FSU attempted to cut into the lead but was unable to even the score as the home side won the set, 25-22.
Similar to the first, the Falcons led early in the second but the Yellow Jackets came roaring back. Trailing 8-6, WVSU rattled off 10-straight to open a 16-8 lead. Fairmont State struggled to get back into the set as it ultimately fell by the score of 25-19.
The third set began with West Virginia State holding the first lead, 7-3, before the Falcons won the next three points to make it a one-point set, 7-6. Unfortunately from that point forward, the Yellow Jackets slowly grasped control of the set and claimed the final set, 25-18.
Fairmont State (14-7, 4-2) remains in the Charleston area to face the Golden Eagles on Saturday, October 19. Match time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
