BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team hit the road for the final time during the regular season to face Salem University. The Falcons held the Tigers scoreless while scoring four goals to a 4-0 win.
From the opening whistle, Fairmont State controlled play with numerous shots. In the 28th minute, the Falcons scored thanks to
Filippa Stalhammar with an assist to
Tristen Bright. FSU maintained possession in the offensive zone but were unable to add to the lead as the match headed to halftime.
The Falcons picked up where they left off to start the second half and in the 57th minute,
Lauren Dye doubled the lead off a pass from
Riley Thorpe. Two minutes later,
Serenity Thomas got in on the scoring as she found the back of the net with a helper from
Valentina Gianinetto.Â
Fairmont State's final goal came off the foot of
Sam Yuen in the 73rd minute with the assist going to Stalhammar to seal the four-goal victory.
Olivia Johnston had a quiet afternoon in net has she only faced one shot on goal and made the save.
Fairmont State (10-5-1) welcomes Mountain East newcomers, Point Park University to Duvall-Rosier Field on Sunday, November 3. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
