Institute, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team trekked south to face West Virginia State University. The Falcons were unable to push the ball across the goal line as they fell, 2-0.

Early in the first half, Fairmont State placed two shots on target but both of them were turned away. West Virginia State placed a shot on goal but Olivia Johnston made the stop. In the 20th minute, the Yellow Jackets took the early lead.

The Falcons struggled for the remainder of the half with only two shots and neither one finding the goal. At the half, the home side led by one-goal margin.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets kept the momentum going and doubled their lead in the 69th minute. Olivia Johnston kept it the margin at two but FSU was unable to tie the match as it fell by the final of 2-0.

Johnston finished the afternoon with four saves. The Falcons held the advantage in corner kicks (3-2) but were outshot, 6-4.

Fairmont State (5-3-1, 4-2-0) travels to Buckhannon, West Virginia on Wednesday, October 9 to face the Bobcats of West Virginia Weslelyan. First kick is set for 7:00 p.m.
