BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team battled West Virginia Wesleyan in a road Mountain East Conference match. The Falcons fell to the Bobcats, 3-0.
West Virginia Wesleyan wasted little time getting on the board first as it scored in the seventh minute. In the 14th minute, the Bobcats doubled their lead. Fairmont State was held to two shots in the half with neither one being on goal.
Out of halftime, neither team really got anything going until the 62nd minute when the Falcons had their best chance with a penalty kick.
Ashleigh Weaver took the kick but West Virginia Wesleyan's Paige Miller made the save to keep the score at 2-0.Â
In the 79th minute,
Braylyn Sparks placed a shot on target but it was rejected. On the rebound opportunity,
Valentina Gianinetto's attempt was stopped by a defender. The Bobcats eventually scored the final goal in the 84th minute for the three-goal victory.
Fairmont State (5-4-1, 4-3-0) returns home to face Glenville State University on Sunday, October 13. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
