SALEM, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team faced Salem University in a non-conference battle. The Falcons swept the Tigers, 25-23, 25-22 and 25-13.
Baylie Ostvig led the team with 15 kills as
Adella Rodriguez and
Josie Nobbe finished with eight.
Kelsie Dangerfield totaled 18 assists while
Josie Skinn tallied 19 digs.
Early in the first set, Fairmont State jumped out to an early 8-3 lead after an ace by
Belle DeVall. The Falcons maintained the lead until Salem clawed its way back and took a two-point lead (18-16). FSU battled back and eventually claimed a 23-20 lead after an Ostvig kill. The Tigers tried to comeback once more but the Falcons held on for the 25-23 set win.Â
It was Salem that held the early advantage in the second set as it led 9-3. Fairmont State slowly chipped away at the deficit and after a 6-1 run with three kills by Ostvig, led 14-13. The Tigers responded and reclaimed the lead until back-to-back kills by Dangerfield and Ostvig mad the score, 23-20. The hosts won the next two points but an attacking error followed by an Ostvig kill closed out the set, 25-22.
The third set was all Falcons from the first serve as they opened a 10-point lead (13-3). The visitors did not look back as they went on to win the final set by 12 (25-13) and the match, 3-0.
Fairmont State (12-6) returns home to face Point Park University on Friday, October 11 for its Dig Pink match. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
