Fairmont State Travels to Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team hit the road for the final time during the regular season to face Point Park University. The Falcons fell to the Pioneers, 3-2.

Joey Borelle led all players with 15 kills while also totaling 21 digs for her 21st double-double of the season. Baylie Ostvig added 14 kills as Kelsie Dangerfield picked up 36 assists. On the defensive side, Josie Skinn finished with 36 digs while at the net, Natalie Zemba blocked five shots.

Opening the first set, Point Park held the early lead until an 8-0 run by Fairmont State gave them a 9-3 edge. The Pioneers quickly answered with five-straight points to narrow the gap to one. The Falcons were able to hold the lead went on a late run, 8-1, to close out the set, 25-15. During the last run, Josie Nobbe accounted for three of the points.

A back-and-forth battle started the second set before Point Park garnered a 14-10 lead. Fairmont State had a response with six-consecutive points to go in front by two (16-14). The Pioneers tied the set at 16 before slowly regaining the lead, 23-20. A kill from Adella Rodriguez followed by a block between her and Natalie Zemba pulled the Falcons within one (23-22). Unfortunately, the hosts won the final two points to take the set, 25-22.

The third set was mainly controlled by the Pioneers and they eventually opened an eight-point lead, 20-12. The Falcons battled back and cut the deficit to three but the hosts won the final point to take the set, 25-21.

Looking to force a fifth set, Fairmont State raced out to a 9-3 lead with four kills from Joey Borelle. The Falcons slowly expanded their advantage to 12 (24-12) and won the set, 25-15.

In the fifth set, the two squads split the first four points before Point Park went ahead by six (9-3). FSU claimed the next two points but the hosts held their advantage and won the final set, 15-8.

Fairmont State (17-13, 6-7) wraps up the regular season on Friday, November 15 at Joe Retton Arena against Frostburg State University. Match time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
