PEPPER PIKE, Ohio -- The Fairmont State University women's basketball team made the journey to Ohio to face Ursuline College. The Falcons were able to force 30 Arrows turnovers in the 86-54 win.
Leslie Huffman scored a collegiate-best 27 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
Alyssa DeAngelo added 22 points going a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. The Falcons were able to score 36 points off turnovers while also cashing in 24 points within the paint.
A slow start to the first period gave way to Fairmont State holding a 6-5 lead with 5:34 on the clock. From that point forward, the Falcons took over with a 14-1 run to extend their lead to 14 (20-6) at the end of the first period.
In the second, Ursuline was able to narrow the difference to single digits but Fairmont State's constant pressure and effective shooting from the free throw line allowed the lead to grow. After a
Leslie Huffman layup, her sister Madeline was able to steal the ball back and lay one in right before the halftime horn to give the Falcons a 47-27 edge.
With full control of the game, FSU kept extending the lead by outscoring the hosts, 23-17 in the third and led 70-44 going to the final 10 minutes. Of the team's 23 points in the third,
Alyssa DeAngelo accounted for 12 of them.
The Falcons stretched the lead to 30-plus points allowing the team to pull the starting rotation and rest them for the remainder of the game as they cruised to the 32-point victory.
Fairmont State (2-1) opens its home schedule at Joe Retton Arena on Monday, November 18 against California University of Pennsylvania. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
