FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team faced Frostburg State University. The Falcons fell to the Bobcats, 1-0.
Early in the first half, Fairmont State was close to getting on the board with two shots on goal but both of them were saved. Frostburg State answered but had a shot off the woodwork before the rebound was placed on net but
Olivia Johnston was there to a make the save.
In the 25th minute, the Bobcats got broke the scoreless tie off a corner set piece. Frostburg State looked to have another goal on the way with a shot to the top left corner. However, Johnston made the save to preserve the one-goal difference. Late in the half,
Ashley Rainho took a shot from about 30 yards out but the bending shot hit the left post. The Falcons added two more shots with each one of them being stopped.
At the half, the Bobcats maintained the 1-0 advantage.
The two sides went up and down the pitch looking to add to the goal total. Each shot that was taken was either off target or saved. As time was winding down, Fairmont State tried to get on the board but were unsuccessful as it fell by the 1-0 score.
The Falcons held the advantage in shots (12-10) and shots on goal (6-5). Frostburg State made six saves compared to four for the home side as the corner kicks favored the visitors, 7-4.
Fairmont State will host an MEC Quarterfinal matchup between the Falcons and Concord University on Sunday, November 10. First kick is set for 1:00 p.m.
