ATHENS, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's basketball team hit the road to battle Concord University. The Falcons fell to the Mountain Lions, 92-69.
Aaliyah Brunny led the Falcons with 16 points with five rebounds.
Alyssa DeAngelo and
Leila Jones each scored 13 points on the afternoon.
Jalen Gibbs contributed 10 points while grabbing eight rebounds.
Concord (5-7, 2-3) started the game off with six-straight points before Fairmont State (8-3, 4-2) quickly answered with six of its own. The two sides went back-and-forth until the Mountain Lions went in front 14-10 with 2:56 left in the first.
Alyssa DeAngelo and the Falcons took control by scoring the final 11 points of the period. DeAngelo accounted for seven of the points as FSU led 21-14 going to the second.
In the second, Concord battled back and reclaimed the lead after a 13-2 run for the first six minutes. The Falcons remained only a couple of shots behind and thanks to a
Jalen Gibbs layup in the waning seconds, the team trailed by two (36-34) going into halftime.
Both teams matched each other in the opening minutes of the third before the Mountain Lions scored 11-unanswered points to jump ahead by 13 (52-39). Fairmont State was able to cut the deficit to single digits but the hosts scored the final four points of the period to hold a 59-46 advantage.
Fairmont State tried to chip away at the difference but were unable to as Concord slowly stretched the lead to 20-plus points. The Falcons ended up falling by the final score of 92-69.
Fairmont State wraps up the first half of the schedule on Thursday, December 19 at Walsh University. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
