CANTON, Ohio - The Fairmont State University men's and women's swimming teams opened the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Mountain East Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Canton, Ohio. After the first day, both the men's and women's teams sit fourth overall.
Following the morning session of prelims for the various events, Fairmont State looked to evening session for some podium appearances. The first event of the night was the Women 200 Medley Relay as the Grouping of
Alexis Antol,
Cassidy Driver,
Kayla Fogle and
Cheri Signorelli placed sixth overall with a time of 1:53.59. Next was the men's turn at the 200 Medley Relay with
Patrick Fubio,
Zackary Bishop,
Grant Ridenour and
Gabriel Peragallo finished with a time of 1:32.61, good enough for third overall. The finish by the men's team was the highest among the MEC teams and earned First Team All-MEC in the event.
Mia Abruzzino was the next Falcon to take to the pool in the 1,000 Free. She swam the event with a time of 10:49.82, placing eighth-overall and earning All-MEC Honorable Mention.
Zoe Hoover participated in the 50 Free and finished 12th with a time of 24.84, earning All-MEC Honorable Mention honors. In the men's side of the 50 Free, Peragallo was named All-MEC First Team with a time of 20.79 and a fifth-place finish.Â
In the 200 Free Relay, the quartet of Abruzzino, Antol, Signorelli and Hoover hit the wall in 1:40.92 to finish fourth. The group was named Second Team All-MEC for the performance. Ridenour,
Carter Redelman, Zach Groe and Bishop represented the men's side in the 200 Free Relay and stopped the clock at 1:29.72 for seventh overall.
Fairmont State continues its run at the GMAC/MEC Championships over the next three days. Each day will begin with prelims at 10:00 a.m. followed by the finals in the evening.
