AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Fairmont State University baseball team wrapped its four-game series against Augusta University. The Falcons fell to the Jaguars in both games, 26-0 and 9-3.
In the first game of the day, it was all Augusta from the start. The home side wasted little time, scoring two runs in the first inning and never looking back. The Jaguars scored their 26 runs on 17 hits and nine walks.
For the second game, it was a much quieter start. Both teams collected a hit in the each of the first two innings. In the top of the third, Fairmont State struck first when
Quintin Smith tripled to drive in
Ryan Goff and
Tyler Haskins. A couple of at-bats later, Smith scored on a wild pitch to give the Falcons a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, Augusta wasted little time tying and eventually taking the lead. The hosts scored six runs on four hits and an error to jump ahead by three (6-3).
While the Falcons struggled to keep the offense going compared to the Jaguars added two runs on a home run in the bottom of the fifth. Fairmont State put together back-to-back hits in the sixth but left the runners stranded.
Augusta scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth for the six-run win.Â
Fairmont State returns home to face Bloomsburg University in a three-game series over two days. The two will play a doubleheader on Friday, March 1 with game one at 12:00 p.m.
