FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University baseball wrapped up its three-game series with Bloomsburg University. The Falcons dropped game one of the doubleheader, 8-4, but bounced back with an 8-0 win in game two.
Game 1: Bloomsburg 8, Fairmont State 4
Bloomsburg got the scoring started in the top of the first when it drove in the first run on a ground out. Later in the inning, a sacrifice fly made it a 2-0 game. In the bottom half, Fairmont State got on the board as
Noah Canterbury drew a walk with the bases loaded.
Cade Sikoski grounded out but drove in
Quintin Smith to even the game at two.
In the bottom of the second,
Micah Canterbury led off with a solo home run. A few at-bats later,
Vince Sabatino scored as
Quintin Smith reached on an error to put the Falcons ahead, 4-2.
The lead was short-lived unfortunately as the Huskies drove in three runs on back-to-back home runs. The score remained 5-4 until the top of the fifth as two scored on a single.
Following a 1-2-3 inning by FSU, Bloomsburg scored the final run of the game in the top of the sixth. The visitors claimed the four-run victory.Â
Game 2: Fairmont State 8, Bloomsburg 0
In the second game, it was all Falcons. The team got things going in the bottom of the first as
Noah Canterbury doubled to plate both Smith and Sabatino. After two walks,
Tyler Haskins drew another walk to bring home Canterbury. The next at-bat,
Connor Bailey doubled to drive in
Zach Brennan and
Micah Canterbury as FSU led 5-0 going to the second.Â
Neither team really got anything going until the bottom of the fourth when Bailey hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield as
Noah Canterbury tagged up. Fairmont State added another run in the inning to lead 7-0.
The Falcons notched the final run in the bottom of the fifth when
Cameron Sheets brought home Sabatino on a sacrifice fly for the final run. Over the last two innings, the Huskies only managed one runner on base as he did not reach scoring position.
Logan McClure picked up the win, throwing five innings with two hits and striking out seven.
Fairmont State will face Bluefield State in a three-game series on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday March 10. The two will play a doubleheader on Saturday with game one at 12:00 p.m. from Bluefield, West Virginia.
