FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University acrobatics and tumbling team faced Frostburg State University in the Mountain East Conference Championship. The Falcons fell to the Bobcats, 270.465-266.770.
Prior to the championship meet, the Falcons competed in the Event Finals. Fairmont State was able to take home four championships: Open Toss, Quad Tumbling, 6-Element Tumbling and Open Tumbling.
In the championship meet, the Falcons fell behind in the Compulsory Event, 37.125-36.800. The teams best score came in the toss heat with a 9.725 out of a possible 10.
Frostburg State widened the margin in the Acro Event with a score of 28.200 compared to 25.600 for Fairmont State. The Falcons earned a 9.450 in the 7-Element heat.
The final event before the intermission was the Pyramid Event as the Bobcats narrowly edged out the Falcons, 29.025-28.900. Fairmont State posted a higher score than its competition in the synchronized heat, 9.725 with a start value of 10.00. At the break, Frostburg State led 94.350-91.300.
The Toss Event kicked off the second half as the second-seeded Bobcats continued to slowly stretch their lead, 27.750-27.175. Moving to the Tumbling Event, Frostburg State earned 53.875 while Fairmont State earned 52.025. In the open pass,
Katey Koehl earned a 9.800 as she started with a value of 10.00.
For the final event, the Teams took the floor, piecing everything together. Starting with a value of 103.28, the Bobcats earned a 94.490. The Falcons had a slighter higher start value of 104.22. After the nearly three-minute performance, the team received a score of 96.27.
Despite out scoring Frostburg State in the final event, Fairmont State fell by the 3.695 difference.
The Falcons now await the final NCATA Championship Rankings on Monday, April 14 to see if they are in the top-eight to qualify for the National Championships.
