FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Fairmont State University baseball team faced Frostburg State University in the final home doubleheader of the season. The Falcons fell in both games, 18-15 and 24-1.
Game One: Frostburg State 18, Fairmont State 15
Frostburg State scored the opening run in the first inning with a single through the left side. The visitors held the lead until the bottom of the second when
Noah Canterbury was able to score on a throwing error.
The Bobcats regained the lead in the top of the third with a two-run homer to center field. In the fourth, the visitors put up six runs on eight hits including two home runs.
Fairmont State went to work in the bottom half with
Vince Sabatino driving in
Tyler Haskins on a single to left center.
Cameron Moore and
Ryan Goff each drove in a run to make a 9-4 game. With the bases loaded, Goff scored on a wild pitch before
Cameron Sheets hit a three-run blast to narrow the margin to one (9-8). Haskins later tied the game on a double to right center as
Quintin Reep scored.
In the top of the fifth, the Bobcats recaptured the lead as they scored on a wild pitch. The guests then hit their fourth home run of the game to go in front by four.
The Falcons responded in their half of the inning as Goff and
Quintin Smith delivered back-to-back RBI singles. Goff then scored on error before Smith crossed home after a wild pitch. Reep gave the home squad its first lead of the game on an RBI single as Sheets scored.
The lead was short lived as a fielding mistake allowed the guests to score two runs and lead 15-14. In the bottom of the sixth, Moore led off with a triple as Goff was able to bring him home on a sacrifice fly to center field and tie the game once more (15-15).
Frostburg State used the long ball once more, this time for three runs in the seventh to lead 18-15. Down to its final three outs, Fairmont State was unable to get the bats going as it fell by the three-run margin.
Game Two: Frostburg State 24, Fairmont State 1
The second game was all Bobcats as they hit eight home runs with a triple and four doubles.Â
Sheets put the Falcons on the board with a solo shot in the fourth inning.
Fairmont State wraps up the regular season at Frostburg State on Friday, May 3. Game one is set for 2:00 p.m.
