GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team hit the road to face the Griffins of Seton Hill. Despite the Falcons having more of the possession in the offensive end, it was the Griffins who came out on top, 1-0.
In the opening moments of the contest, Seton Hill placed a shot on goal but
Olivia Johnston made the save. A little over a minute later, the Griffins fired another shot but it was blocked.
Both squads jockeyed for possession until
Filippa Stalhammar tried to put into the back of the net but Seton Hill's Sydney Caldwell made the save. The Falcons let go of two more shots that missed the target before
Ashley Rainho had her shot in the 25th minute stopped.
Fairmont State was able to get a couple more shots off with
Serenity Thomas putting one on target in the 44th minute but was stopped once more as the half ended in a scoreless tie.
The second half was much of the same but neither team converted a goal until Seton Hill found the back of the net in 74th minute. Over the final 15 minutes, the Falcons had chances but each one of them was either saved or it hit the crossbar. Time expired on the Falcons comeback chance as they fell by the one-goal difference.
The Falcons totaled 19 shots with eight of them being on goal. The hosts tallied three corner kicks compared to two for FSU.
Fairmont State remains on the road as it travels to West Liberty University on Sunday, September 15 for the first Mountain East Conference match of the year. First kick is slated for 1:00 p.m.
