FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's volleyball team host Bluefield State University. The Falcons swept Big Blue by scores of 25-19, 25-14 and 25-21.
Bluefield State won the opening point of the match as the two squads went back-and-forth. Trailing by two, Fairmont State rattled off eight-straight points with two aces by
Josie Skinn and two kills from
Josie Nobbe. Big Blue was able to narrow the margin to three (20-17) but the Falcons held on as
Alexa Martin recorded the final point of the set, 25-19.
In the second set, Bluefield State once again grasped the early advantage but three-straight aces from Skinn gave the home squad the lead. Fairmont State was able to open a six-point lead (13-7) and never looked back. The Falcons closed the set on an 8-1 run to win, 25-14.
The two sides went back-and-forth to open the third before the hosts pieced together numerous small runs to hold a 20-13 edge. Big Blue was able to cut away at the difference but an error along with a Nobbe kill ended the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-0, in favor of the Falcons.
Adella Rodriguez led the offense with 11 kills while Nobbe finished with nine. Skinn recorded eight digs and six aces on the evening while
Kelsie Dangerfield tallied 17 assists and seven digs.
Fairmont State welcomes Glenville State on Friday, September 27 for the first Mountain East Conference match of the season. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
