PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team battled Point Park University in its first meeting as Mountain East Conference (MEC) foes. The Falcons shut out Pioneers, 3-0.
From the start, Fairmont State was able to apply pressure as
Sam Yuen put a shot on goal that was saved within the opening minute. In the 11th minute,
Arrington Sparks put the Falcons on board to lead 1-0.
Fairmont State took five more shots in the half but were not able to find the back of the net. Comparatively, Point Park only had two shots with one on goal as
Olivia Johnston made the save. At the break, the Falcons led by the one-goal margin.
Neither side really got anything going until the Pioneers placed another shot on target but once again, Johnston was there to make the stop. In 58th minute, Fairmont State added to its lead as
Tatiana Mayumi's shot found the nylon for her first goal of the season.
The two sides went up and down the field with various opportunities but it was the Falcons who once again scored as
Calloway Segeleon also scored her first of the season. The late goal gave the visitors the three-goal win and improving their record to 4-1-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The Falcons attempted 14 shots with six on target compared to seven and three, respectively, for the Pioneers. Johnston finished the evening by stopping all three shots she faced.Â
Fairmont State remains on the road as it travels to Frostburg State University on Saturday, September 28. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
