FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State secured a decisive 4-0 victory over Wheeling on Sunday at Duvall-Rosier Field. The Falcons dominated offensively with 31 total shots, including 16 on target, while their defense held the Cardinals to just two shots. Three second-half goals sealed the win, with Fairmont St.'s goalkeeper earning a clean sheet.

With the victory, the Falcons clinched the MEC North Division title. It is the team's first division title since 2019.

The first half opened with the Falcons taking early control of the match. Valentina Gianinetto's persistent efforts paid off in the 13th minute as she netted a goal, assisted by Montserrat Diaz, to give Fairmont State the lead. Despite several attempts on goal, the team was unable to extend their advantage, with the Cardinals' goalkeeper, Deetya Satyal, making multiple saves.

Fairmont State maintained offensive pressure throughout the half, registering numerous shots on target. The defense, led by Olivia Johnston in goal, kept Wheeling at bay, allowing only a single shot on goal. The first half concluded with the Falcons leading 1-0.

The second half began with Serenity Thomas scoring early for the Falcons in the 51st minute, extending their lead to 2-0. The team continued to apply pressure, with Braylyn Sparks and Emelly Chicas both testing the Wheeling goalkeeper, although their attempts did not find the net.

Later in the half, Payton Parliament further increased the advantage to 3-0 with a goal assisted by Ashley Harding and Dayra Dinarte. Shortly after, Harding converted a penalty kick, sealing a decisive victory by raising the score to 4-0. The Falcons maintained their lead to close the match with a robust performance.

Gianinetto tallied the game-winning goal, leading the team with eight shots, five of which were on goal. Harding recorded both a goal and an assist, contributing to the team's offensive efforts.
