DeVall Reaches 1,000 Assists in Sweep of Point Park

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State swept Point Park 25-18, 25-8, 25-19 on Tuesday at Joe Retton Arena. The Falcons notched a .333 hitting percentage, with 44 kills.

Fairmont State initiated play with a strong start, responding quickly after an early error with a kill by Natalie Zemba. The home team then gained momentum, stringing together a 4-1 run highlighted by kills from Zemba and Josie Nobbe, aided by assists from Zoe Ringer and Cayden Anschutz. The Falcons maintained the lead, capitalizing on opponent errors to keep the score in their favor.

As the set progressed, the Falcons displayed resilience with key contributions from their lineup. Nobbe and Joey Borelle delivered crucial kills, and a service ace by Josie Skinn helped extend their lead. Despite a brief surge from the Pioneers, the Falcons maintained composure, closing the set with a kill by Borelle to secure a 25-18 victory.

The Falcons opened the second set with a strong offensive push, marked by kills from Zemba and Borelle, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead. Ringer played a pivotal role, providing key assists that fueled a 7-1 run. This momentum was bolstered by defensive stops, including a block from Alexa Martin and Nobbe, extending the advantage to 10-2.

As the set progressed, the Falcons continued to capitalize on the Pioneers' errors, widening the gap to 15-4 with contributions from Martin and Nobbe. Despite a brief response from the Pioneers, the Falcons maintained control through effective serving and defensive plays, highlighted by Borelle's service aces.

The Falcons closed the set decisively at 25-8, maintaining a solid lead throughout and demonstrating strong teamwork and execution on both offense and defense.

Fairmont State initiated the third set strongly, using effective blocks by Anschutz and Martin to cut into the Pioneers' early lead. A tie at 5-5 was achieved following back-to-back attack errors by the opposition. Borelle then contributed significantly with a series of kills, aiding the team in gaining a slight advantage.

As the set progressed, the Falcons capitalized on the Pioneers' errors, with Zemba's blocks proving pivotal in extending the lead. Nobbe and McKenzi Martin's effective kills further bolstered the Falcons' position. The home team surged ahead, building a 19-11 lead, before the Pioneers responded with a brief scoring run.

Despite the Pioneers' attempt to close the gap, the Falcons maintained composure. With Kelsea Vandine's service ace, the Falcons secured the set at 25-19, concluding the match on a high note.

Borelle recorded a team-high 15 digs and added 11 kills with a .333 hitting percentage. Martin contributed significantly with five total blocks and five kills on 10 attempts. Zemba showed efficiency with five kills on six swings, hitting .833, while also registering four blocks. Ringer led in assists with 21 and chipped in five digs. DeVall added 14 assists and during the second set, reached 1,000 assists in her collegiate career.

Fairmont State (22-9, 9-4) concludes the regular season on Thursday, November 13 against Frostburg State University. Start time from Joe Retton Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
