Fairmont State Rallies to Best Lock Haven

ATHENS, W.Va. — Fairmont State (1-0, 0-0 MEC) defeated Lock Haven (0-1, 0-0 PSAC), 77-70, at the Carter Center, overcoming a 6-point deficit in the fourth quarter. The Falcons capitalized on 20 points off turnovers to secure the victory.

Fairmont State opened with a defensive intensity, leading to an early tie at 8–8 with a layup by Leslie Huffman at 4:38. Haylen Cook added a 3-pointer at 6:11, narrowing the gap. Despite these efforts, the Falcons trailed the Bald Eagles 18–12 at the end of the first quarter.

Fairmont State surged back into contention with a crucial stretch led by Huffman, who converted a layup and three free throws, turning a deficit into a 19-18 lead at 6:49. The Bald Eagles responded with Rhlyn Rouse's three-point play, reclaiming a narrow lead, but the Falcons remained persistent. Gabby Reep's late layup capped the quarter, keeping the Falcons within striking distance. The quarter concluded with the Falcons trailing 32-31.

The Falcons opened the third quarter with a strong start, highlighted by Leila Jones's 3-pointer at 9:18, assisted by Huffman, giving them an early lead. Despite a competitive sequence, the Bald Eagles' constant scoring in the paint allowed them to regain the advantage. Reep contributed significantly for the Falcons with a jumper at 3:42 and a late steal, keeping the team within striking distance. As the quarter concluded, Jones connected on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer, assisted by Reep, narrowing the gap to 52-49 in favor of the Bald Eagles.

The Falcons seized control in the fourth quarter with a critical 3-pointer by Cook at 9:11, turning a deficit into a lead. Jones extended the advantage with another 3-pointer at 8:28, assisted by Reep. Despite the Bald Eagles' attempts to close the gap, the Falcons maintained their edge, with Huffman converting crucial free throws in the final minute to secure the victory. The game concluded with the Falcons winning 77–70.

Huffman scored 26 points and converted 17 of 21 free throws, leading the offensive effort. Reep added 22 points and recorded five assists, contributing significantly to the team's scoring. Cook made three 3-pointers and tallied 11 points. Jones also connected on three 3-pointers and collected two steals.

Fairmont State faces Seton Hill on Saturday, November 15 from Athens, West Virginia to close out the Atlantic Region Crossover. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m.
