Four Goals in Second Half Lead the Way for Fairmont State

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. — Fairmont State defeated West Liberty 5-2 on Sunday at the West Family Complex. Fairmont State tallied 15 shots on goal, with a decisive second half that included four goals.

The match began with Fairmont State applying early pressure, including a corner kick in the second minute and multiple shots on goal. Montserrat Diaz and Emelly Chicas tested the West Liberty goalkeeper, Cianna Butera, but were unable to convert.

Despite the Falcons' offensive efforts, the Hilltoppers took the lead in the 27th minute with a goal from Ellinor Jansson. Fairmont State responded swiftly, equalizing in the 34th minute when Arrington Sparks scored, assisted by Braylyn Sparks. The period concluded with the score level at 1-1, setting up a competitive second half.

The second half began with the Falcons quickly taking control, as Stephanie Pedias scored in the 46th minute to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Filippa Stalhammar extended the advantage with a goal at the 54th minute, assisted by Diaz, pushing the score to 3-1.

Fairmont State maintained their momentum with a penalty kick goal by Dayra Dinarte in the 59th minute, followed by another goal from Dinarte in the 74th minute, assisted by Payton Parliament, widening the margin to 5-1. The Hilltoppers responded with a goal from Maya Taggart in the 78th minute, but the visitors closed out the half strong, maintaining a 5-2 lead at the final whistle.

Stalhammar scored the game-winning goal, converting her only shot on target. Dinarte tallied two goals and led her team with seven shots, four of which were on goal. Sparks also found the back of the net, with two of her three shots being on goal. Braylyn Sparks contributed an assist while taking three shots, one of which was on target.

Fairmont State (13-1-2, 10-1-2) wraps up the regular season on Wednesday, November 5 at Frostburg State University. FIrst kick is set for 6:00 p.m.
