Fairmont State Dominates Rebounding in Win Against Davis & Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (6-1, 1-0 MEC) defeated Davis & Elkins College (0-6, 0-1 MEC), 86-53, at McDonnell Center, dominating with a 53-30 rebounding advantage and 46 points in the paint.

Fairmont State opened the first quarter with a strong 3-pointer by Leslie Huffman at 9:08, setting the pace early. A series of turnovers by the Senators allowed the Falcons to extend their lead, highlighted by a fast-break layup from Gabby Reep at 6:08. Despite some turnovers of their own, Fairmont State maintained control, closing the quarter with a defensive rebound by Huffman, resulting in a 19–10 lead.

The Falcons dominated the second quarter with a strong 30-point contribution, driven by efficient conversion in the paint and fast breaks. Huffman led the charge with a series of successful plays, including a fast-break layup at 6:18, extending the lead significantly. Haylen Cook also played a pivotal role, contributing both offensively with a layup at 8:42 and defensively with key steals. The visitors capitalized on turnovers, increasing their advantage to 49-20 by the end of the half.

Fairmont State seized control early in the third quarter with a 3-pointer by Leila Jones at 9:14, assisted by Reep, which extended their lead. They maintained momentum through strong play in the paint, highlighted by Alanna Tate's jumper at 8:25. The Falcons maintained control in the final quarter despite facing defensive pressure from the Senators. Key contributions came from Tate, who added a layup at 5:19 to keep Fairmont State ahead. Although Davis & Elkins made a push with an 18-point quarter, Fairmont State capitalized on their rebounding edge, with Ryan Davis securing a crucial defensive board at 1:11. The game ended with Fairmont State securing an 86–53 victory.

Huffman posted a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds, adding four steals for the Falcons. Reep contributed 12 points and three assists. Cook recorded three steals and collected six rebounds. Davis finished with 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
