Falcons Win Big at Salem

SALEM, W.Va. -- The 24th-ranked Fairmont State University women's basketball team made the short trip to face Salem University. The Falcons jumped out to early lead and never looked back as they defeated the Tigers, 88-47.

Jalen Gibbs led the Falcons with 18 points with six rebounds and three steals. Leila Jones scored 14 points with another 10 coming from Alyssa DeAngelo.

Fairmont State (22-4) opened the game with four-straight points from Jalen Gibbs. Salem (1-27) made a couple of baskets but the Falcons answered each one as they led 12-7 with 5:56 left in the first. Over the next three minutes, FSU took over the game with a 12-0 run to lead by 17 (24-7). The Tigers hit a three to stall the run but Gibbs and Alyssa DeAngelo converted two field goals to close out the first and lead 28-10.

Both teams were fairly even to start the second period as Fairmont State maintained its advantage. At the 6:33-mark of the period, the Falcons went on another incredible run as they closed out the first half on a 13-2 run. Going to halftime, the visitors led 46-16.

The second half of the game was fairly even, however, FSU was able to outscore the hosts 42-31 over the final 20 minutes of regulation. In the win, the Falcons had 10 different scorers with a total of 41 points coming from the bench. From the field, the maroon and white were 34-67 (50.7%) and scored 33 points off turnovers.

Fairmont State gears up for the final home game of the regular season on Wednesday, February 26 against West Virginia Wesleyan College. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
