Acrobatics & Tumbling Sweeps Season Opener

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University acrobatics and tumbling team kicked off the new season with a tri-meet against Glenville State and West Liberty. The Falcons scored 264.885 and won both matchups as the Pioneers scored 244.560 and the hosts received a 232.960.

The afternoon got started with Compulsory Event, made up of four heats: Acro, Pyramid, Toss and Tumbling. Fairmont State (2-0) earned a 36.00 while Glevnille State (1-1) received a 34.80. West Liberty (1-2) was credited with a 33.00 for the opening event.

In the Acro Event, the Falcons expanded its lead with a 28.10 as the 7-Element group earned a 9.55 out of a possible 10. The Pioneers were second with a 26.95 followed by the Hilltoppers with a 25.40.

The final event before the intermission was the Pyramid Event. It was the closest scored event of the day as Fairmont State just edged out Glenville State, 29.05-29.00. West Liberty completed the event with a score of 26.35. At the half, FSU had a total of 93.15 with 90.75 for Glenville State and 84.75 for the hosts.

With just three events remaining, the Toss Event kicked off the second half of the meet as the Falcons posted a 27.50. Their lead grew as the Pioneers and Hilltoppers scored 26.20 and 24.00, respectively. The best score of the event came in the Open Heat as FSU earned a 9.50 with a start value of 9.90.

Tumbling was the next event on the docket as FSU truly pulled away from the other two squads with a 51.275 score. In the open pass, the Falcons posted a 9.675 with a start value of 9.95. The judges gave Glenville State a 45.550 and a 47.500 for West Liberty.

In the team event, Fairmont State secured the sweep of the tri-meet as it posted a 92.96. The Pioneers were the next highest score with an 82.06 followed by the Hilltoppers earning a 76.71.

Fairmont State returns to the mat on Sunday, February 16 at Wheeling University. Start time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
