Gibson and Stoneking Set for National Championships

FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Two Fairmont State University wrestlers are finishing up their final preparations for the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championships.

Colton Stoneking (141) and Austin Gibson (184) are currently finishing up their final workouts and practices before the National Championships start on Friday, March 14 from Indianapolis, Indiana.

Stoneking is coming off a historic season for the Falcons as he became the first in program history to win an MEC Title and was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the MEC Championships. Stoneking went on to claim the 141-pound title at the Super Region 1 to earn his second-straight NCAA Qualification. The junior from Waynesburg, Pennsylvania currently holds a record of 29-4 and is seeded fifth in his weight-class.

Gibson has posted an incredible senior season as he placed third at the MEC Championships for the 184-pound weight-class. Gibson went in the Super Regional looking to earn his second berth into the National Tournament. After falling in the semifinals, Gibson came back in the third-place match to claim the berth with a takedown in the closing seconds. Gibson currently has a record of 23-7 as he is unseeded in his respective bracket.
