FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University acrobatics and tumbling team hosted West Virginia State University. The Falcons were able to take down the Yellow Jackets, 257.910-186.015.
Fairmont State got its afternoon started in the Compulsory Event and scored a 36.450. In the toss heat, the team earned a 9.650 with a start value of 10. On the floor for the team were
Taylor Openlander,
Katey Koehl,
Izaria McWhorter-Martin,
Alexa Wilson and
Alexis Wilkinson. On the other side was
Rylee Vinson,
Brylee Knotts,
Reghan Mollohan,
Kassidy Price,
Olivia Daniels and
Kaylee Rehak.
The next event for both teams was the Acro Event. The Falcons posted a 27.600 while West Virginia State earned a 20.300. In the 5-Element heat, the judges awarded FSU a 9.600.
As the meet was nearing the midway point, the Pyramid Event was next as Fairmont State continued its strong performance with a score of 28.950. For the Inversion and Synchronized heats, the Falcons garnered a 9.600 before scoring a 9.750 in the open heat. Heading into halftime, the hosts led 93.000-64.650.
Out of the 15 minute break, the Toss Event was next for the two teams. FSU earned 27.450 out of a possible 29.200. The squad of Openlander, Koehl, McWhorter-Martin, Wilson, Wilkinson and Daniels were award a score of 9.550 in the open heat.
Continuing the strong performance, the hosts expanded their lead in the Tumbling Event with a score of 50.200. For the open pass,
Katey Koehl earned a 9.725 while
Azia Shaffer was given a 9.125 in the aerial pass.
The last event for both teams was the Team Event. The Falcons secured the home win as the judges awarded them an 87.260.Â
Fairmont State (5-0) returns to the floor on Tuesday, March 11 against Long Island University. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
