BRISTOL, Tenn. -- The Fairmont State University softball opened a four-game road trip against King University. The Falcons were able to capture game one, 2-1, before falling in game two, 7-3.
Game 1: Fairmont State 2, King 1
Neither team was able to get anything going offensively until the top of the third when Fairmont State struck first. As
Abbie Keilholz reached on a single, she then advanced to third on an error in the outfield. As Keilholz was pinch ran for by
Gabi Ramm,
Bella Hess grounded out to bring home the first run of the game.Â
In the bottom of the third, King evened the score with a ground ball of its own. The Falcons regained the lead in the next half inning when
Alexa Andrews hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield. On the play,
Kae Compton was able to cross the plate and give FSU the 2-1 advantage.
Delaney Haller kept her strong pitching performance going as she was able to force the Tornado to leave runners on base over the next four innings to secure the 2-1 win.
Haller pitched a complete game, allowing just the lone run (unearned) on three hits while striking out seven.Â
Game 2: King 7, Fairmont Statem 3
To start game two, King scored the first run in the opening frame with an RBI single to centerfield. The hosts added two runs in the third inning with a solo home run to right field followed by an RBI double in the left center gap.

Just like every other time the Falcons scored, King responded with a sacrifice in the bottom of the sixth to lead 7-2. Down to its final three outs, Fairmont State tried mount a comeback as Hess hit an infield single to score
