AUGUSTANA, S.D. -- The fifth-seeded Fairmont State University acrobatics & tumbling team faced the fourth-seeded and host institution, Augustana University in the NCATA Championship Quarterfinals. The Falcons fell to the Vikings, 256.815-248.695.
The opening event was Compulsory as Augustana took the early lead, 36.575-36.075. The toss event was the strongest for Fairmont State as it earned 9.575 with a start value of 9.575.
In the Acro Event, the Falcons were just edged out by the Vikings, 27.825-27.800. Fairmont State claimed the 6-element with a score of 9.225. The team also earned scores of 9.300 (5-element) and 9.275 (7-element).
Pyramid Event was the final one before halftime as Augustana grew its lead, 29.325-24.825. At the half, the Vikings led 93.725 to 88.700 for the Falcons.
Out of halftime, the Toss Event was next for both teams. Fairmont State scored 27.400 while Augustana posted 27.825. In the open toss, the Falcons were judged for a score of 9.375.
The Tumbling Event was next for both teams as Fairmont State earned 53.175 as Augustana posted 53.275. In the open pass,
Katey Koehl was given a 9.750 by the judges.
Final event of the night was the Team Event. Unfortunately, the Falcons were unable to close the gap as they scored 79.420 compared to 81.990 for the Vikings.
Fairmont State will now await to see if it had any qualifiers for the Event Finals on Sunday, April 27 with an 11:00 a.m. ET start time.
