Fairmont State Goes 1-1 Against Point Park

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University baseball team concluded its series against Point Park University. The Falcons walked it off in the first game, 4-3 but the Pioneers captured the second game, 3-2.

Game 1: Fairmont State 4, Point Park 3

After a scoreless first inning and top of the second, Fairmont State looked to take the early lead. After a double by Zach Brennan followed by a walk from Quintin Reep, Ryan Goff launched a ball over the left field wall to take a 3-0 lead.

Point Park trailed by the three-run deficit until the top of the fourth when it got on the board thanks to a sacrifice fly. The score remained 3-1 until the top of the seventh when a two-run homer tied the game.

In the bottom of the seventh, Micah Canterbury singled to left center before Kellen Kinsler pinch ran. Gunner Riley then drew a walk as Tyler Haskins eventually came up with two outs. The graduate catcher lifted a ball to center tat allowed Kinsler to race home and give the Falcons a 4-3 win.

Despite not getting a decision, Tyler Wilkinson pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with six strikeouts. Andrew Coursin picked up the win as he tossed a scoreless seventh while striking out two of the batters.

Game 2: Point Park 3, Fairmont State 2

Following a scoreless top of the first, FSU took the early lead once again as Reep singled through the right side to plate Connor Bailey and Tyler Haskins. The Pioneers cut the deficit in half the next inning with a leadoff home run to left center.

Both teams had opportunities to score over the next three innings but were unsuccessful. In the top of the sixth, Point Park was able to work the bases loaded before a single to right center drove in two runs to give the visitors the lead.

Unfortunately, Fairmont State was not able to get the tying run across over the next two frames as it dropped the second game.

Reep and Goff both went 2-3 from the plate as Reep drove in the two runs for the Falcons.

Fairmont State (17-13) is set to face Salem University on Saturday, April 12. The doubleheader is set to start at 12:00 p.m.
