CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University baseball team and Point Park University battled for the MEC Championship. The Falcons ultimately fell to the Pioneers, 7-0.
Both teams struggled to get anything going in the opening frame. In the bottom of the second, Point Park took the lead with an RBI single to left field.
The game ventured to the bottom of the fifth where the Pioneers added five more runs including a grand slam.Â
With the 6-0 advantage, Point Park tacked on an additional run in the sixth. Trailing 7-0, Fairmont State's best chance game in seventh with runners on the corners but were unsuccessful to drive in a run.
Ultimately, the Falcons fell by the seven-run deficit. Already earning the automatic qualifier for the MEC, Fairmont State (27-26) waits for the selection show for the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. The show begins at 10:30 p.m. on
