WEST CHESTER, Pa. -- The Fairmont State University baseball team opened the 2025 NCAA Atlantic Regional on Thursday, May 15. The Falcons fell in the first game to East Stroudsburg, 11-2, before bouncing back for an 11-4 win over West Chester.
Game 1: East Stroudsburg 11, Fairmont State 2
In the first game, East Stroudsburg took the lead in the bottom of the second with a single up the middle. The Warriors added to their lead with a home run to left field in the third.
Fairmont State cut the deficit to one in the fourth when
Maddox Johnston singled to right field as
Zach Brennan scored. East Stroudsburg responded in the bottom half with a single to right field.Â
The Falcons narrowed the gap to just one again in the top sixth.
Connor Bailey drove a ball into the left center gap as
Quintin Reep crossed the plate. Unfortunately, the Warriors offense went to work as they added four more runs on four hits and an error. Going to the seventh, ESU led 7-2.
East Stroudsburg added a run in the seventh before scoring three more in the eighth to lead 11-2. Fairmont State was able to get two runners on in the top of the ninth but a foul out and fielder's choice closed out the game.
With the loss, Fairmont State was pitted against West Chester University to remain in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Game 2: Fairmont State 11, West Chester 4
The Falcons jumped out to the early lead in the top of the first when
Cameron Moore scored thanks to a
Noah Canterbury single up the middle. With the 1-0 lead, Fairmont State added to its lead in the top of the third as two runs scored on a
Quintin Reep single to left center.
After a scoreless fourth, FSU looked to add to its advantage in the fifth. With runners in scoring position and two outs, Reep delivered a single to right field as
Ryan Goff and Moore scored to make it a 5-0 score.
West Chester got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a single through the left side. In the top of the seventh, Fairmont State recaptured the five-run edge when Reep hit a solo home run to left field.Â
The Falcons offense exploded in the top of the eighth as they scored five runs on four hits including a two-RBI single from Reep. The Golden Rams scored three runs on two hits to make it an 11-4 game.
After Fairmont State went down in order in the ninth, West Chester was looking for a way to extend the game. The first two batters reached base but a fly ball followed by a double play ended the game. The 11-4 win for the Falcons is the first NCAA Regional win in program history.
Quintin Reep finished the game 4-5 with seven runs batted in and scoring once.
Connor Tingler earned the win as he went four innings with four runs on three hits.
Fairmont State (28-27) will have the day off on Friday, May 16 due to all three teams remaining alive in the bracket. The Falcons will play on Saturday, May 17 against East Stroudsburg no matter its result against West Chester on Friday. Start time is slated for 11:00 a.m.
