CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University baseball team faced Concord University in an elimination game in the MEC Tournament. The bats came alive for the Falcons as the defeated the Mountain Lions in seven innings, 12-2.
In the bottom of the first, Fairmont State went to work as
Quintin Reep singled to right center to bring home
Cameron Moore. After a walk loaded the bases,
Maddox Johnston singled to left field to plate
Noah Canterbury.
Connor Bailey followed with a walk before
Tyler Haskins was hit by a pitch to give the team a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons added to their lead in the second as
Ryan Goff scored on a Canterbury single to left center. In the third, the squad kept the momentum going as Moore drove a ball into the left center gap to bring home two more runs. He then scored on a single off the bat of Goff.
FSU held the 8-0 advantage until the bottom of the sixth when Canterbury hit a two-run homer to right field.
Quintin Reep followed with a home run of his own to make it an 11-0 game.
Concord got on the board in the seventh with two solo home runs. However, in the bottom half of the inning, Goff singled to left field to score Bailey and end the game.
Tyler Wilkinson went the distance on the mound, allowing the two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Goff finished the game 3-5 at the plate while Canterbury was 2-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Fairmont State (25-25) will now wait to see who their next opponent will be in the conference tournament. The game is scheduled for Friday, May 9 with first pitch at GoMart Ballpark occurring at 7:00 p.m.
