FAIRIMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University athletic department is pleased to announce the addition of men's and women's indoor track and field to its offering of sports beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.
"We are adding Indoor Track & Field as a vehicle to enhance our Cross Country programs," Director of Athletics,
Greg Bamberger said. "Giving these student athletes an official opportunity to compete we feel will be a great benefit. In addition to being an attractive perk for recruiting."
Current Fairmont State University head cross country coach Kaylyn Christopher has been tabbed to lead the indoor track and field programs as well. Beginning with this season, the teams will primarily compete in long distance races with student-athletes crossing over from the cross country teams.
"I am extremely excited about the addition of indoor track and field," said coach Christopher. "Providing our student-athletes with the opportunity to compete in indoor track is a game-changer for Fairmont State. This development will enable our current cross country athletes to harness their fall fitness so that they can put up some fast times during the winter months. Not only is this crucial to the effectiveness of their training cycles, but it also demonstrates a commitment to their student-athlete experience. We look forward to joining our MEC competitors on the track this winter."
With these new additions, Fairmont State now boasts 19 varsity sports programs.Â
