FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (2-0-0, 1-0-0) blanked West Liberty (0-3-0, 0-1-0) with an 8-0 victory at Duvall-Rosier Field.
Fairmont State's offensive strength was highlighted by a first-half hat trick.
The first half showcased a dominant offensive display by Fairmont State, beginning with
Sam Yuen's breakthrough goal in the 26th minute, followed by another from Yuen in the 32nd, assisted by
Valentina Gianinetto. As the half progressed,
Payton Parliament and
Rania Hazri added to the lead with goals in the 37th and 44th minutes, respectively, with Yuen again contributing as an assist. Despite West Liberty's defense,
Olivia Johnston's goalkeeping and Fairmont State's relentless attack secured a 4-0 advantage at halftime.
The second half commenced with the Falcons immediately taking control, as
Serenity Thomas found the back of the net in the 49th minute, assisted by
Ava Yannucci. Just moments later, Yuen extended the lead with a goal in the 50th minute, following an assist from Gianinetto. The Falcons continued to dominate throughout the half, with Yuen adding another goal in the 64th minute and
Calloway Segeleon scoring in the 74th minute, assisted by
Lena Stockfisch, solidifying an 8-0 victory over the Hilltoppers.
Yuen scored four goals and added one assist, contributing significantly to the offensive efforts. Hazri found the net once, while also registering two shots on goal. Thomas matched Hazri with one goal, converting both of her shots on target. On the defensive side, Johnston maintained a clean sheet as the goalkeeper, keeping the opposition at bay with no goals conceded in 74 minutes of play.
Fairmont State will host Frostburg State University on Wednesday, September 17. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
