Falcons Build Momentum with 18 Steals in Home Victory

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (14-3, 8-2 MEC) defeated Davis & Elkins College (1-15, 0-10 MEC), 82-61, at Joe Retton Arena, capitalizing on 18 steals and 33 points off turnovers.

Fairmont State began strongly, overcoming an early 3-pointer from Davis & Elkins with Haylen Cook's tip-in at 9:22. The Falcons executed a decisive run, highlighted by Cook's 3-pointer at 5:58 and a pair of fast-break layups by Gabby Reep and Cook in the final two minutes. The home team capitalized on defensive pressure, forcing multiple turnovers and converting them into points. Fairmont State led 25–12 at the end of the first quarter.

The Falcons dominated the inside game, scoring 16 points in the paint and leveraging a strong defensive effort to build momentum. Reep led the charge with multiple layups, contributing to a pivotal stretch that saw the Falcons extend their lead. Alanna Tate added a crucial 3-pointer at 1:51, further increasing their advantage. A key defensive play came as Tate swiped a steal at 8:14, leading to a scoring run that included a jumper from Jones, pushing the lead to 56-31 by 8:01. Despite the Senators' attempts to close the gap, the Falcons maintained control with efficient free-throw shooting from Cook at 2:06, extending their advantage. The quarter ended with the Falcons leading 64-41.

The Falcons maintained their advantage in the fourth quarter, beginning with a 3-pointer by Cook at 9:19, assisted by Zaniya Murray. This was followed by Cook's fast-break layup at 8:25, extending their lead. Despite the Senators briefly reducing the deficit, the Falcons responded with a strong performance in the paint, highlighted by Hadley Horne's jumper at 3:18. Reep's pair of free throws at 1:43 sealed the game. The contest ended with the Falcons securing an 82–61 victory.

Cook led the team with 23 points, converting 8 of 15 field goals, including three 3-pointers. Reep contributed 16 points and recorded six steals. Tate scored 13 points and added two blocks. Ryan Davis collected eight rebounds and tallied four steals.
