FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team is ranked first in the Atlantic Regional in the first NCAA Division II National Power Index (NPI) rankings, released Monday, Oct. 12.
The Falcons, under first-year head coach
Alex Zaroyan, enter the week with an 11-0-2 overall record and 9-0-2 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.
Fairmont State is also ranked No. 4 nationally with an NPI rating of 61.292.
The NPI is a new ranking system adopted by Division II for the 2026-27 academic year to help evaluate teams for NCAA Tournament selection. The system uses a data-driven formula that considers a team's wins and losses, strength of schedule and quality of opponents.
Unlike traditional rankings, the NPI evaluates teams on a national scale, allowing programs from different conferences and regions to be compared using the same system.
Rankings for women's soccer will initially be released every Monday before transitioning to daily updates, Monday through Friday, beginning the week of Oct. 26.
Fairmont State is one of three MEC teams ranked among the top eight in the Atlantic Region. Frostburg State is ranked No. 42 nationally followed by Point Park at No. 50.
The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, October 14 as they travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to face Point Park University. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m.
