Women's Soccer Remain Ranked First in Atlantic Region in Second NCAA Power Ranking Index

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team remains ranked first in the Atlantic Regional in the second NCAA Division II National Power Index (NPI) rankings, released Monday, Oct 19.

The Falcons, under first-year head coach Alex Zaroyan, enter the week with a 13-0-2 overall record and 11-0-2 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.

Fairmont State also moved up to claim the No. 3 spot nationally with an NPI rating of 62.245.

The NPI is a new ranking system adopted by Division II for the 2026-27 academic year to help evaluate teams for NCAA Tournament selection. The system uses a data-driven formula that considers a team's wins and losses, strength of schedule and quality of opponents.

Unlike traditional rankings, the NPI evaluates teams on a national scale, allowing programs from different conferences and regions to be compared using the same system.

Rankings for women's soccer will initially be released every Monday before transitioning to daily updates, Monday through Friday, beginning the week of Oct. 26.

Fairmont State is one of two MEC teams ranked among the top eight in the Atlantic Region. Frostburg State is ranked No. 36 nationally; Point Park is just outside the top 8 regionally with a national ranking of 66.

The Falcons return to action on Wednesday, October 21 as they host Davis & Elkins College. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
