Women's Soccer Holds onto First Place Ranking in Atlantic Region in Third NCAA Power Ranking Index

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University women's soccer team holds onto the first place ranking in the Atlantic Regional as the third NCAA Division II National Power Index (NPI) ranking released Monday, Oct 26.

The Falcons, under first-year head coach Alex Zaroyan, enter the week with a 14-0-3 overall record and 12-0-3 in Mountain East Conference (MEC) play.

Fairmont State dropped down to the No. 7 spot nationally with an NPI rating of 62.111.

The NPI is a new ranking system adopted by Division II for the 2026-27 academic year to help evaluate teams for NCAA Tournament selection. The system uses a data-driven formula that considers a team's wins and losses, strength of schedule and quality of opponents.

Unlike traditional rankings, the NPI evaluates teams on a national scale, allowing programs from different conferences and regions to be compared using the same system.

Rankings for women's soccer will be released Monday through Friday, beginning this week.

Fairmont State is one of two MEC teams ranked among the top eight in the Atlantic Region. Frostburg State is ranked No. 5 Regionally and No. 32 nationally; Point Park is just outside the top 8 regionally with a national ranking of 61.

The Falcons close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 28 as they travel to Frostburg State, the match is set to start at 5:00 p.m.
