FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University acrobatics and tumbling team opened the season in a tri-meet against West Liberty University and West Virginia State University. The Falcons scored a 260.475 while West Liberty posted a 222.290 as West Virginia State earned an 86.050.
Prior to the meet, Fairmont State honored Kristi Kiefer for her continued work in the creation and expansion of acrobatics and tumbling. From this day forward, the home opener meet at Fairmont State will be known as the Kristi Kiefer A&T Classic.
Fairmont State opened the day in the Compulsory Event and scored a 37.550. The pyramid heat was the highest scoring with a 9.850 with a start value of 10.000. The one pyramid consisted of
Taryn Laurence,
Madison Stefancik,
Alexa Wilson,
McKenzie Sowers,
Kaylee Rehak and
Jessi Wolf. On the other side of the mat was
Hayley Laurenson,
Elizabeth Maurer,
Makenna Huss,
Macy Riggs,
Kassidy Price,
Alexis Wilkinson and
Jacklyn Kelly.
The next event was the Acro Event as the Falcons posted a 27.800. In the 5-Element heat, the home team was awarded a 9.600.
Pyramid Event was next on the schedule for the three teams as FSU combined for a score of 29.350. The best score occurred in the open heat as the group of Laurence, Wilson, Wilkinson, Wolf, Rehak and
Caitlyn Clendenin received a perfect 10.
After halftime, the Toss Event took the mat as Fairmont State earned a 28.050. In the open heat, the judges scored the performance a 9.600.
Holding a strong lead, the Falcons grew their lead in the Tumbling Event with a 51.575. Laurence posted a score of 9.675 in the aerial pass.
The final event of the day is the Team Event. Fairmont State wrapped up the victories with a total of 86.150.
Fairmont State (2-0) welcomes Kutztown University to Joe Retton Arena on Sunday, February 15. Start time is set for 2:00 p.m.
