Canterbury and Tingler Shine in Road Wins for Fairmont State

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Fairmont State (5-4) had a successful doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan (9-7) on Friday at Apollo High School, winning both games with scores of 5-1 and 3-2.

Game 1: Fairmont State 5, Kentucky Wesleyan 1

In the first game, Fairmont State secured a 5-1 victory, recording 11 hits and capitalizing on a three-run fifth inning to take control of the game. The Falcons opened the scoring in the fourth inning when Reilly Bubb singled and advanced on a hit by TJ Hughes. Caleb Cottle grounded out to first, allowing Bubb to score. Fairmont State led 1-0 after four innings.

The Falcons extended their lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Cameron Moore singled and later scored on a hit by Bryont Green. Cam Cole, who had walked, also came home on a single by Bubb. Hughes grounded out, driving in Green for the third run of the inning. The Falcons led 4-0 through five innings.

Kentucky Wesleyan got on the board in the sixth inning, scoring a run on a single by Logan Molnar that brought in Jacob Riegel, who had doubled. The score was 4-1 in favor of the Falcons after six innings.

Fairmont State added another run in the seventh inning. Kris Sutton walked and advanced to third on Green's double. Bubb hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Sutton. In the bottom of the seventh, the Panthers had runners on but a double play ended the game as the Falcons won, 5-1.

Micah Canterbury delivered a complete game performance, pitching 7 innings and allowing only 1 earned run on 6 hits. Canterbury struck out 7 batters while issuing just 1 walk over 86 pitches. Bryont Green posted a strong performance, going 3-for-4 at the plate with one double and an RBI, while also collecting four assists in the field. Reilly Bubb added two hits and two RBIs, with a stolen base to his stats. Cameron Moore recorded three hits in three at-bats and scored one run.

Game 2: Fairmont State 3, Kentucky Wesleyan 2

In the second game, Fairmont State secured a narrow 3-2 victory, capitalizing early with two runs in the second inning and adding a crucial insurance run in the sixth, while the Panthers' late two-run rally in the seventh fell short. Cam Cole's two-run double in the second inning put Fairmont State ahead 2-0. Cole's hit came after Cameron Moore reached on an error, allowing Drew Emrich to score.

In the sixth inning, Caleb Cottle scored for the Falcons on Cole's RBI single, extending the lead to 3-0. Kentucky Wesleyan responded in the seventh inning with two runs. Rhett Dysholm scored on Davin Yates' RBI single, and Baron Ratliff crossed the plate on an RBI single by Ellis Hurt. Despite still threatening with runners on base, Connor Tingler struck out the last two batters to secure the 3-2 win.

Connor Tingler pitched a complete game, securing the win for Fairmont State, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 6 batters. Cam Cole drove in three runs as he went 2-4 from the plate. Drew Emrich reached base twice, scoring once with a hit and a walk. Cameron Moore doubled and scored a run, finishing with one hit in three at-bats.

Fairmont State is set to continue its series against Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday, March 7. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. EST / 2:00 p.m. CST.
