FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State University acrobatics & tumbling team faced Kutztown University in the Mountain East Conference Championship Semifinal. The Falcons defeated the Golden Bears, 261.235-223.740.
The Compulsory Event opened the afternoon with the Fairmont State jumping out to a 37.500-33.725 lead. The team scored 9.825 and 9.875 in the pyramid and toss heats, respectively.
In the Acro Event, the Falcons extended their lead with a three-heat total of 28.525. The seven-element team of
Taryn Laurence,
Alexa Wilson,
Elizabeth Maurer and
Alexis Wilkinson combined for a score of 9.625.
Just before the half, Fairmont State posted a 29.375 in the Pyramid Event. Traditionally one of the team's best heat, the open pyramid, continued with a score of 9.925. At the break, the Falcons led 95.400-85.625.
Following halftime, the hosts continued to stretch their lead with a 29.075 in the Toss Event. In the 450 Salto Toss, the combination of Laurence,
Macy Riggs,
McKenzie Sowers, Wilkinson,
Jacklyn Kelly and
Kaylee Rehak earned a score of 9.725.
The penultimate event of the day was the Tumbling Event. The Falcons totaled a score of 54.550 as Kutztown earned a 43.525. The team's best pass came in aerial pass as Laurence earned a 9.825.
In the Team Event, Fairmont State secured the victory with a score of 82.210 to advance to the MEC Championship.
Fairmont State will first compete in the Event Finals on Sunday, April 12 from Joe Retton Arena at 12:00 p.m. The Falcons will then face Glenville State University for the MEC Championship at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for Sunday at the MEC Championships can be
