Falcons Sweep Sunday Matinee with Point Park

FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (25-7, 13-1 MEC) swept Point Park (7-26, 2-14 MEC) with decisive victories of 9–3 and 10–2 on Sunday at Duvall-Rosier Field.

Game 1: Fairmont State 9, Point Park 3

In the first game, Point Park took an early lead in the first inning with Shania Cope's home run to left center. Fairmont State managed to load the bases but did not score, leaving the inning trailing 1–0. 

The Pioneers extended their lead in the second inning with Kaylee Fabiano's solo home run and an RBI single by Ava Hubble, making it 3–0. Fairmont State responded decisively with a six-run inning. Alexa Foresha started with a single, followed by Paige Matteson's two-run homer. Emma Paul added a three-run homer to right center, and Jaylin McGill's single brought in another run. Fairmont State led 6–3 after the second inning. 

In the fifth inning, the Falcons increased their lead. Gabi Ramm, running for Foresha, was driven in by Matteson, who then scored on a throwing error. Bella Hess tripled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Sophia Frye. Fairmont State led 9–3 at the end of the fifth inning. 

The Falcons held Point Park scoreless for the remainder of the game, securing the 9–3 victory.

Caitlin Morey started for Fairmont State, allowing three earned runs on five hits over 1 1/3 innings with 39 pitches thrown. Micah Wilson took over and pitched 4 2/3 innings, conceding just three hits while striking out four batters. Allyson Nordling closed, pitching one inning with one strikeout and one walk on 17 pitches. 

Emma Paul recorded three RBIs and hit a home run. Paige Matteson added three hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs while also scoring twice. Bella Hess scored two runs and stole two bases.

Game 2: Fairmont State 10, Point Park 2 (5 Inn.)

In the second game, Avery Townsend initiated the scoring for the Falcons in the first inning, advancing to second on a wild pitch and eventually scoring, bringing the score to 1–0. 

The third inning saw an offensive surge from the Falcons. Abbie Keilhoz opened the inning with a home run to center field. Bella Hess and Townsend reached base, setting up Emma Paul, who doubled in two runs. Breonna Marietta followed with a two-run homer. Jaylin McGill added a single, and Sydney Emanuel doubled in another run. Keilhoz capped the inning with a two-RBI single, making it an eight-run inning. By the end of the third, the Falcons led 9–2. 

In the fourth inning, the Falcons extended their lead with Emanuel singling through the left side, allowing Alexa Foresha to score. This brought the score to 10–2. The Falcons maintained their lead through the fifth inning, securing the win with a final score of 10–2.

Allyson Nordling started for the Falcons, pitching 2 1/3 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits, with one walk and no strikeouts. Liz Alsop followed with a strong relief appearance, pitching two innings, allowing just one hit, and earning the win to improve her record to 2-0. Olivia Hylton closed the game with 2/3 of an inning, throwing six pitches, four of which were strikes. 

Townsend scored two runs and recorded two stolen bases. Paul contributed with two RBIs and added a double. Marietta hit a home run and drove in two runs. Keilhoz also delivered a home run and tallied three RBIs.

Fairmont State hits the road on Tuesday, April 14 to face Gannon University. Start time from Erie, Pennsylvania is set for 3:00 p.m.
