GLENVILLE, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (25-92, 13-3) faced a challenging doubleheader against Glenville State University (29-11, 16-4) on Saturday, falling in both matchups with final scores of 4-0 and 3-2.
Game 1: Glenville State 4, Fairmont State 0
In the first game, Fairmont State struggled offensively, unable to score as Glenville State took a commanding lead. The Pioneers struck first in the second inning when Addie Hicks scored on a passed ball, followed by an RBI single from Emma McLean.
They extended their lead in the third inning with Shelby McDan scoring on a sacrifice fly and Hannah Howe hitting a solo home run, bringing the score to 3–0. In the fifth inning, Delany Warni added another solo home run for Glenville State, closing the game at 4–0.
Caitlin Morey pitched 3 innings for Fairmont State, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs, with 2 of those being earned. She recorded 2 strikeouts and issued 2 walks.
Liz Alsop provided 3 innings of relief, giving up 1 hit and 1 earned run while striking out 1.
Game 2: Glenville State 3, Fairmont State 2
In the second game, Fairmont State began strong with an aggressive offensive push.
Avery Townsend reached on an error and advanced to third on
Emma Paul's single. Townsend scored unearned, followed by Paul crossing home plate on
Jaylin McGill's single to right field, giving the Falcons a 2–0 lead after the first inning.
However, Glenville State responded in the third inning with Alexis Harwa scoring on Shelby McDan's double, narrowing the lead to 2–1.
The Pioneers took the lead in the fifth inning when Shelby McDan stole home, and Macie Duvall, pinch running for Delany Warni, scored on a single by Hannah Howe, putting Glenville State ahead 3–2.
Despite Fairmont State's efforts, including a single from
Sydney Emanuel in the seventh inning, they could not regain the lead, resulting in a final score of Glenville State 3, Fairmont State 2.
Delaney Haller pitched 4 1/3 innings for Fairmont State, allowing 5 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4 and walking 2.
Micah Wilson came in as relief, pitching 1 2/3 innings without allowing a run and surrendering only 3 hits.
Emma Paul excelled with 2 hits and 3 stolen bases, while
Jaylin McGill contributed significantly by driving in 2 runs.
