FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont State University men's tennis team faced Jefferson University in the Atlantic Regional 2 final. As the match game down to two courts, the Falcons fell in a tightly contest battle to the Rams, 4-2.
The Falcons opened the day with strong performances in doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles,
Kusunoki Haruto and
Noah Liedtke earned a 6-3 victory over Filip Slavkovic and Matthew Cizmarik.
Gabriel Masu and Keagan Karunagaran followed with another 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Nicolas Trebuchet and Johary Rabetrano to clinch the doubles point for Fairmont State. The No. 3 doubles match featuring
Mohamed El Helaly and
Gustavo Masu was left unfinished with Jefferson leading 4-3.
In singles action,
Gabriel Masu highlighted the day for the Falcons with a dominant straight-set victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Rabetrano 6-2, 6-2. Haruto battled in a competitive three-set match at the top position before falling to Trebuchet in a super tiebreak, 7-6, 6-8, 6-4.
Karunagaran dropped a 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles, while Liedtke pushed the second set to a tiebreak before falling 6-2, 7-6 at No. 4.
Gustavo Masu was defeated in straight sets at No. 6 singles.
The No. 5 singles matchup between El Helaly and Slavkovic went unfinished after El Helaly claimed the opening set and the players split the second-set tiebreak.
Fairmont State finishes the season with a record of 18-5 while going 4-2 in Mountain East Conference play.
