Fairmont State Drops Two to Frostburg State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Fairmont State University (19-27, 12-14 MEC) faced a tough doubleheader against Frostburg State University (32-16, 19-7 MEC), falling 11–0 in the first game and 12–1 in the second at Dale Miller Field.

Game 1: Frostburg State 11, Fairmont State 0

In the first game, Frostburg State took an early lead in the second inning with a two-run homer by Ryan Bouma, driving in Drew Jourdan after his single. The score stood at 2–0 in favor of the Bobcats through two innings. 

The third inning saw Frostburg State continue to build its lead as Jackson Schalick doubled to bring home Tanner Cunningham, who had reached on a walk. Schalick later scored on an error, making it 4–0.

The fourth inning saw Frostburg State extend its advantage with four more runs. Tanner Cunningham singled to score two runs, and Schalick and Jake Holler each added an RBI, pushing the lead to 8–0 through four innings. 

Frostburg State capped its scoring in the seventh inning with three additional runs. The Falcons managed to get runners on base throughout the game, including a single by Bryont Green in the sixth inning, but were unable to convert those opportunities into runs. Frostburg State secured an 11–0 victory over the Falcons.

Micah Canterbury started for the Falcons, pitching 3 2/3 innings and allowing 8 runs on 8 hits, including one home run. Cameron Gonzalez entered in relief, pitching 3 1/3 innings and surrendering 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 4 batters. 

Bryont Green contributed with two hits, including a double, while Drew Emrich added to the Falcons' efforts by collecting one hit and managing two caught stealing from behind the plate.

Game 2: Frostburg State 12, Fairmont State 1

In the second game, Frostburg State opened the scoring in the second inning when Landon Marple scored on a single by Mason Kelleher, taking a 1–0 lead after two innings. 

The Bobcats extended their lead with a three-run homer to left field by Ryan Bouma. Fairmont State responded in the third inning as Adam Loucks singled and was brought home by a double from Cameron Moore, cutting the deficit to 4–1 through three innings. 

Frostburg State added two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings. The seventh inning saw the Bobcats further solidify their lead by adding four more runs, resulting in a final score of Frostburg State 12, Fairmont State 1.

Connor Tingler started for the Falcons in the second game, pitching 4 innings and allowing 6 earned runs on 6 hits with 4 walks and 5 strikeouts. Anthony Dixon came in relief for 2 innings, giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits and striking out 1. 

Cameron Moore contributed with an RBI double and drew a walk, while Connor Bailey led the team with two hits.

Fairmont State wraps up the regular season on Saturday, May 2 at Frostburg State University. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
