FAIRMONT, W.Va. — Fairmont State (1-0-0) secured a 3-1 victory over Slippery Rock (0-1-0) on Thursday at Duvall-Rosier Field. The Falcons scored twice in the second half to seal the win.
The opening period commenced with Slippery Rock taking an early lead as Lilia Battalini found the net in the 2nd minute. Fairmont State quickly responded when
Serenity Thomas scored in the 7th minute, assisted by
Sam Yuen, leveling the score at 1-1.
After a 90-minute lightning delay, play resumed as the Falcons maintained offensive pressure, generating multiple corner kicks and attempts on goal, though none altered the scoreboard further. The first period concluded with the teams tied at 1-1, setting up an evenly poised match.
The second period began with the Falcons gaining momentum.
Payton Parliament notched a crucial goal in the 63rd minute, putting the Falcons ahead. Later,
Stephanie Pedias extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal as she headed in a corner kick from
Lyndy Van Horn in the 73rd minute.
The Falcons maintained control throughout the remainder of the period, fending off any significant threats from Slippery Rock. The period concluded with the Falcons preserving their lead, securing a 3-1 victory.
Stephanie Pedias notched one goal on her only shot of the match.
Serenity Thomas also found the back of the net, converting her single shot into a goal.
Payton Parliament delivered the game-winning goal, capitalizing on her lone shot opportunity.

Fairmont State will travel to Findlay, Ohio to face the University of Findlay on Sunday, August 30. First kick is slated for 4:00 p.m.
