FSU Women Host Regional Crossover To Open Season

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The Fairmont State women's basketball team will welcome a pair of regional opponents from the CIAA to the newly-renovated Joe Retton Arena to open the 2014 Regular Season, starting Friday at 2 p.m. when the Falcons meet Fayetteville State. Concord University will be the second team from the Mountain East to participate in the four-game, regional challenge.
 
Tickets will be available at the gate in the lower level reserved seating area for $10, in the general admission (upper level) seating area for $8 and youth and senior citizens can get a $6 general admission (upper level) ticket. Youth five-and-under will be admitted free. FSU and Pierpont students will also be admitted free with a valid ID (ID must be present for entry).
 
If you are unable to make it to the games, live stats will be available for all games and live video will be available for the two Fairmont State games via Game Day Central on the homepage of fightingfalcons.com.

• Hailey Garrett enters her senior season with 1,271 career points, 696 career rebounds and 82 blocked shots in her first three years with the team. Garrett is currently 14th in career scoring, 10th in career rebounds and ninth in career blocked shots in FSU history.
• Hailey Garrett led the Falcons in scoring in nine of Fairmont State's last 12 games, including six 20-point performances.
• Emily Lohr is currently in 10th-place in school history with 90 three-pointers. With one more three-pointers, Lohr will pass Maggie Britvec for ninth in school history and can move up to seventh with just five more three-point field goals, passing former teammate Tiffany
Nicholson.
• Lohr's current three-point field goal percentage (.344) and free throw percentage (.720) are among the top 10 in FSU history.
• During the 2013-14 season, Garrett had seven 20-point performances and five double-doubles. The junior also reached double figure scoring in all but three games.
• The Falcons ended the 2013-14 season as the second-best defensive team in the Mountain East Conference, holding opponents to just 68.5 points per game during the regular season. FSU is also second in the league in field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 39 percent from the field.
• FSU also led the league in field goal percentage last season (.467). and shot over 50 percent from the floor in five of the last six games of the season.
• In addition, FSU was also second in the league in scoring margin (+7.2) and free throw percentage (.755).
• The Falcons have been successful getting the ball down low a season ago, averaging 32.8 point per game in the paint.
• Fairmont State trailed in all but two games last season and the Falcons did not win a game when they shot a lower field goal percentage than their opponent.
• Fairmont State was also 13-5 when holding a rebounding advantage in games.
• FSU is also 10-1 when they have fewer turnovers and make more three-pointers than its opponent.
