FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- The University of Charleston rushed for 307 yards in a 42-17 victory over Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon at Duvall-Rosier Field.
After
Daniel Monroe scored on a 56-yard dump-off from
Cody Stevenson to put the Falcons on the board at the 6:44 mark of the first quarter, Charleston scored 42 of the next 45 points to run away with the victory.
Prior to today's game, the FSU football team honored 11 seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program over the last four years.
The Golden Eagles improve to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in the Mountain East Conference. Fairmont State slips to 3-6 on the season.
In addition to Charleston averaging 6.7 yards per carry, the Golden Eagles also went 6-of-6 from in the red-zone and completed just seven passes on the afternoon. Fairmont State had 254 yards through the air and held nearly a six minute advantage in time of possession.
Cody Stevenson made his first career start for the Falcon on Saturday afternoon at quarterback and completed 21-of-29 passes for 254 yards and a touchdown.
Fabian Guerra led the FSU receivers with seven catches for 96 yards.
Austin White carried the ball 21 times for 63 yards and scored late in the game for the Falcons. Senior
Daniel Monroe also carried the ball 19 times for 61 yards and hauled in a 56-yard touchdown pass.
The UC offense was led by Marvin Elam with 13 carries for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Josef Hinnant chipped in 88 yards on 15 carries and scored once in the victory. Charleston had four players go over 50 yards and reach the endzone on the ground. Jermaine Kelly completed 6-of-12 passes for 70 yards and a touchdown from the quarterback position for UC.
Marcus Porter led the FSU defense with 12 total tackles (eight solo) in the loss. Senior
Jephte Leveille had seven solo tackles and a sack for the Falcons. Charleston was led on the defensive side of the ball by Justin Avery with 12 tackles and a sack. Tucker Schaefer and Malcolm Cater each recovered fumbles for the Golden Eagles.
Fairmont State will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when they travel to the University of Virginia at Wise for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
