Falcons Return Home To Host Bluefield State On Wednesday

FAIRMONT, W.Va. -- After being idle for 10 days, the Fairmont State women's basketball team will return to Joe Retton Arena on Wednesday evening to host Bluefield State at 6 p.m. The game will wrap up the 2014 portion of Fairmont State's schedule and will be the final non-conference game of the season for the Falcons.

Tickets will be available at the gate in the lower level reserved seating area for $10, in the general admission (upper level) seating area for $8 and youth and senior citizens can get a $6 general admission (upper level) ticket. Youth five and under will be admitted free. FSU and Pierpont students will also be admitted free with a valid ID (ID must be present for entry).

Fairmont State Women's Basketball Notebook
-After 10 days off, the Fairmont State women's basketball team will wrap up the 2014 portion of its schedule by hosting Bluefield State on Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. inside Joe Retton Arena.
-The Falcons are coming off a 70-55 road victory against West Virginia State back on Saturday, December 6.
-In the victory over the Yellow Jackets, Emily Lohr scored a team-high 21 points and pulled down 12 rebounds while Emily Puskarich chipped in 19 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
-Puskarich scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half to help FSU erase a three-point halftime deficit for the victory against WV State. FSU also had a season-low 12 turnovers against the Yellow Jackets.
-The Falcons are currently sixth in the country in defensive rebounds per game, limiting their opponents to just one shot on most defensive possessions.
-FSU is also 17th in field goal percentage defense (.339) and 19th in rebounding margin so far this season.
-Offensively the Falcons are ranked 26th in Division II in field goal percentage (.458), 25th in scoring margin (17.1) and 34th in free throw percentage (75.3).
-Emily Lohr's 60 percent average from three-point range is currently second in the country behind Candice Followwell from Arkansas-Fort Smith. Lohr is averaging 15.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game this season.
-The Falcons have two of the top three-point shooters in the Mountain East Conference, with Emily Puskarich also ranked third in the league with a 38.9 percent average from behind the arc.
-Hailey Garrett leads the Mountain East Conference in field goal percentage, making 53.7 percent of her field goals this season. Garrett leads the Falcons in scoring (16.1), rebounds (9.1) and blocked shots (15) this season.
-Hallie Gunnoe leads FSU in minutes played this season and does a little bit of everything for the Falcons, she is currently second on the team in scoring (15.3), third in rebounding (6.8), first in assists (34) and second in steals (15).
-Fairmont State has also shared the basketball very well this season with 167 assists on 250 made field goals.
-Bluefield State comes into Wednesday game on a three-game winning streak after going 2-0 at the Joe Manchin Classic over the weekend.
-Shakima Wiggins leads the Blues on offense, averaging 17.3 points per game this season. Wiggins had a season-high 32 points in the season opener against Davis & Elkins.
-Bluefield State is out-rebounding opponents by an average of 4.7 per game and have two players averaging nearly a double-double this season, including Tasia Nolan (12 points, 9.2 rebounds) and Hope Smith (12.1 points and 8.4 rebounds).
-BSC has a balanced offensive attack with five players averaging double-figure scoring this season.
