Fairmont State Women's Basketball Notebook• The Fairmont State women's basketball team opened the 2015-16 season over the weekend at the MEC/CIAA Challenge in Fayetteville, N.C. The Falcons opened the weekend with a 62-61 victory over Shaw on Friday evening. The Falcons trailed by three with 37 seconds remaining before forcing two turnovers in the closing seconds to pick up the win.
With Friday's win, head coach
Steve McDonald now has 300 career victories as the women's basketball coach at Fairmont State. He is the all-time winningest coach in Fairmont State women's basketball history.
• On Saturday afternoon, the Falcons outscored Fayetteville State, 26-13 in the fourth quarter to pull away with a 78-63 victory against the hosts. The Falcons shot 57.7 percent from the field in the win over the Broncos.
• Junior forward
Amanda Ruffner recorded a pair of 20-point scoring performances over the weekend, totaling 21 points against Shaw and 20 against Fayetteville State.
• Akron transfer
Katie Nunan responded after scoring just seven points in the opener by scoring 23 points on 10-13 shooting against Fayetteville State on Saturday.

Makenzie White also reached double-figures twice over the weekend, scoring 19 against Shaw on Friday and 10 vs. Fayetteville State on Saturday.
• FSU scored 76 points in the paint in two games over the weekend at the CIAA/MEC Challenge.
• Last November, the Falcons ran away with an 89-49 victory over ABU at Joe Retton Arena.
Amanda Ruffner came off the bench and scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds in the win.
Emily Puskarich also reached double figures in the game with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc.
Scouting ABU• The Battlers have two players on their current roster that transferred from the Fairmont State basketball program, including leading scorer Rachel Ashley who is averaging 17 points and 4.5 rebounds after the opening weekend of the season.
• Kaitlyn Rohlfing has also started the first two games of the season for ABU and is averaging 6.0 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
• ABU is giving up an average of 84.5 points and have been out-rebounded by 15 through the first two games of the season.
• The Battlers dropped contests to both Ohio Dominican and #15 Ashland last weekend.
• ABU has also made just 32 percent of its three-point attempts so far this season, including a 9-of-33 performance against nationally-ranked Ashland.
